Homestand Continues This Week

Mankato, Minn. —  Minnesota State (12-4) continues its 14-game homestand this week as it entertains Winona State in a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday and opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Friday.  First-pitch is slated for 2 p.m., Wednesday and 1 p.m., on Friday.
   
Minnesota State History:
  The 2010 season is the 37th for Maverick softball.  MSU owns an all-time record of 925-637-7(.591) in 1,569 games, and have four North Central Conference titles (1984, 1987, 1989, 2007) and six appearances in the NCAA Division II National Tournament (1984, 1987, 1989, 1995, 1997, 2007) to its credit.

Who We Are:
According to official university guidelines, there are only three acceptable usages of the school name. The first is “Minnesota State University, Mankato” and this is only to be used in the first reference of the school. Following that, the only other acceptable usages of the school name are “Minnesota State” or “MSU” and no others. Minnesota State Athletic Communications appreciates all cooperation in this matter.

Head Coach Lori Meyer:  One of the most respected coaches in all of NCAA Division II softball, Lori Meyer is in her 25th year as the head coach of the Minnesota State softball team.  Meyer owns a career record of 800-536-3 (.599) in 1,339 games.  A seven-time NCC Coach of the Year, Meyer has guided the Mavericks to three North Central Conference titles (1987, 1989 and 2007), and guided the ‘87 Mavericks to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division II National Tournament. 

Rankings:
  The Mavericks have received votes in the last three NFCA polls.

Meyer Earns 800th Win:
During the Minnesota State softball team sweep of Waldorf College (3/25), head coach Lori Meyer earned her 800th career victory, all of which have came at Minnesota State.  Meyer, who is the winningest active collegiate coach (all divisions) in the state of Minnesota – earned her 800th career victory in the second game of the day.  During her tenure at Minnesota State, which covers more than a quarter of a century, Meyer has compiled a 800-536-3 (.579) record at Minnesota State and has coached 86.4 percent of MSU’s 925 victories in program history.

Get to 'em Early:
  Minnesota State has scored 93 runs this season.  Of those 93 runs, 74 have came in the first four innings of the game.  The Mavericks have scored 25 first-inning runs this year, while its opponents have crossed the plate just 13 times in the first inning.

A Few Random Numbers:
  Minnesota State is batting .305 with runners on base, .421 with the bases loaded, .302 with runners in scoring position and .511 with a runner on third and less than two outs.  The Mavericks are hitting .448 to leadoff an inning, and have successfully advanced runners 50.4 percent of the time.  With two outs, MSU is hitting .252, while its opponents are hitting .210
