MANKATO, MINN. --- The Minnesota State women’s tennis team completed a weekend Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference sweep Sunday afternoon as it downed MSU Moorhead, 9-0, at the Mankato Tennis Center.
The Mavericks opened the day sweeping doubles play. Senior Sarah Madigan and freshman Kathryn Gavin earned an 8-6 win at the #1 flight while senior Paige Burke and Heather Jensen won 8-6 a the #2 flight. Sophomore Tegan Bakke and senior Cassandra Anderson rounded out the doubles action with an 8-3 win at the #3 flight.
Anderson opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the #5 flight before Gavin earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the #2 flight.
Madigan downed Kayla Huether – the reigning NSIC Rookie of the Year, 7-5, 2-6, 13-11, at the #1 flight to pick up MSU’s third singles win. Freshman Brandi Dohmen won at the #3 flight, 6-4, 6-1 before Burke earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at the #4 flight. Jensen closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at #6 singles.
The Mavericks (6-0, 4-0 NSIC) return to action Saturday when they host Upper Iowa at 9 a.m., before playing Gustavus at 6:30 p.m.
