Grand Forks, N.D. --- The Minnesota State women’s tennis team yielded just 12 games en route to a 9-0 victory over Minnesota, Crookston Saturday morning in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match.
The Mavericks opened with a sweep of the double’s competition. Senior Paige Burke and junior Heather Jensen opened doubles play with an 8-0 victory at the #2 flight. At the #3 flight, sophomore Tegan Bakke and senior Cassandra Anderson earned an 8-0 win before junior Sarah Madigan and freshman Kathryn Gavin earned an 8-3 win to close out play at the #1 flight.
In singles competition, the Mavericks raced through the first five flights, allowing the Golden Eagles to win just five games. In the sixth flight, Jensen won the opening set, 6-4, before earning a 6-0 victory to seal the shutout.
Minnesota State (5-0, 3-0 NSIC) returns to action Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., as it hosts Minnesota State University-Moorhead at the Mankato Tennis Center.
