St. Peter, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s tennis team downed Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival Southwest Minnesota State, 5-4, Sunday morning in a thrilling tennis match.

Freshman Brandi Dohmen secured the Maverick victory with a 3-6, 6-2, 14-12 victory at the #3 singles flight.  In the super-tiebreaker, Dohmen fended off five match points before capitalizing on her first and only match point to earn the win.

Freshman Kathryn Gavin earned a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the #2 flight, while senior Cassandra Anderson won 6-3, 6-4 at the #5 spot.  Junior Heather Jensen earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at the #6 position to round out the Maverick victories in singles.

Southwest Minnesota State won two of the three doubles matches with MSU’s lone victory coming at the #3 flight sophomore Tegan Bakke joined with Anderson to earn an 8-3 win at the #3 flight.

The Mavericks (4-0,2-0 NSIC) returns to action when they travel to Grand Forks, to face Minnesota Crookston at 9 a.m.
