Mavericks Close Out Nonconference Schedule This Weekend

What's Up:  The Minnesota State men's basketball team – fresh off a pair of wins during a trip to California last weekend – return to the friendly confines of the Taylor Center in Bresnan Arena this weekend as it hosts Michigan Tech (Friday, 6 p.m.) and Eureka College (Saturday, 3 p.m.).

Scouting Michigan Tech
:   The Huskies enter this week a 3-0 record and will play host to Finlandia Tuesday evening.  Last week, Michigan Tech earned a 101-88 win against Bemijdi State, a 76-57 win over Rockhurst and a 68-61 win over Missouri Western.
   
As a squad, MTU is averaging 81.7 points per game while allowing 68.7 points per contest.  The Huskies are shooting 49.5 percent from the floor and 68.8 percent from the free throw line while outrebounding their opponents 39.7-28.3.    
   
Junior forward Mike Hojnacki leads the squad in scoring averaging 18.3 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per contest.  Sophomore forward Ali Harder leads the team in rebounding at 8.3 per game, while pouring in 16 points a contest while shooting 69 percent from the floor.  Freshman guard Austin Amga averages 16 points a game while freshman guard Alex Culy rounds out the Huskies in double-figures at 12 points per game.
   
Kevin Luke is in his 16th season with the program and owns a 286-178 record.

Scouting Eureka:
The Red Devils enter the weekend with an 0-2 record and will host Rose-Hulman in Eureka Tuesday evening.  Last week, Eureka fell at Knox, 75-60 and then lost to Rockford, 76-73 at home.
   
Eureka is averaging 66.5 points per game while allowing 75.5.  The Huskies are shooting 46.5 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from the free throw line this season while outrebounding their opponents, 35-32.5.  
   
Sophomore guard Blake Chapman leads the squad in scoring averaging 22 points per game while passing out 4.5 assists per contest.  Junior guard Andy Leppard averages 16 points per game and a team-high nine rebounds while junior Jordan Kindred is third in scoring at 12 points per game is shooting a scoring 63.2 percent from the floor.  Sophomore center Mark Lessen rounds out the Red Devils in double-figures as he averages 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor.  Chip Wilde is in his fourth year with the program and owns a 38-42 record.

Minnesota State History: The 2010-11 season marks the 89th campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men’s basketball. The Mavericks are 1,155-817 (.589) in 1962 games since the program’s inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 31-9  record (.775).  The Mavericks have also made seven previous appearances in the NCAA Tournament, going 8-8 (.500) in those trips.
