Kyle Weiss joined the Minnesota State coaching staff in August of 2018 and is coaching the wide receivers.
The 2018 season saw Maverick receivers rack up 3,109 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns, both of which rank in the top five in a season in team history. Shane Zylstra claimed All-NSIC First Team honors and was named AFCA All-America Second Team and CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team.
In all, the Mavericks tallied 3,520 receiving yards, the third-most in a season in team history. Minnesota State also recorded 30 touchdown receptions, the sixth-most in a season in team history. Shane Zylstra finished the season with MSU single-season records in catches (81), receiving yards (1,676) and touchdown receptions (18). Both Zylstra and Justin Arnold were named All-NSIC for their efforts during the 2019 season, with Zylstra also going on to receive several All-American honors.Â
Before joining Minnesota State, Weiss coached the running backs at Dakota Wesleyan. He also served as a student assistant at the University of South Dakota and as the quality control coach with the Sioux City Bandits of the Indoor Football League.Â
A native of Vermillion, S.D., Weiss played at Midland University at quarterback.
