Klanderman, Joe

Joe Klanderman

A mainstay in the Minnesota State football program, Joe Klanderman is in his 17th season wearing the purple and the gold.  Klanderman, who enters his 12th season as a coach – and his seventh as the team’s Defensive Coordinator – was a player for the Mavericks from 1997-2001.

Klanderman, who also helps with the linebackers, will focus his recruiting on Wisconsin and transfer students.

In the past three seasons, 37  Maverick defenders were named to the All-NSIC South Division teams.  Additionally, over the past four seasons, four Mavericks have had the opportunity to play in Senior Bowl games as Blake Freese (East Coast Bowl, Cactus Bowl) and Chris Brunkhorst (Cactus Bowl) did so in 2009 and Kelvin Rodgers (Cactus Bowl) did so in 201 and linebacker Matt McQuiston (Cactus Bowl) in 2011.

A defensive lineman for MSU from 1997-2001, in which he served as a starter during three of those seasons, the Hammond, Wis., native was named to the Academic All-NCC Team, was a Maverick Achievement Award recipient, and was a Verizon District V Academic All-Region honoree following his senior season in 2001. In 2001, Klanderman earned his bachelor’s degree in social studies from MSU and completed his master’s degree in sports administration in 2004.

Klanderman and his wife, Amanda, are parents of two daughters, Elle and Corryn, and two sons, Jarrett and James, and the family lives in Mankato.
