Austin Dickinson

Austin Dickinson joined the Minnesota State football coaching staff during the summer of 2018 as the defensive line coach.

In his first season with MSU, Dickinson coach three All-NSIC honorees including Zach Dodge, Jayme LaPlante and Chance Bowen. In total the Mavericks allowed just 99.5 rushing yards per game during the 2018 season, while members of the defensive line tallied 34 sacks.

The 2019 season saw two members of the Maverick defensive line, including Brayden Thomas and Michael Buetow claim All-NSIC Second Team honors. As a unit, the MSU defensive line helped the Mavericks hold opposing offenses to just 69.1 rushing yards per game which ranked third in NCAA Division II. Members of the defenisve line combined for 34 sacks.

Dickinson spent the previous season at the University of North Dakota where he served as the team’s offensive quality control coach. He would assist the offensive coordinator and coach the defensive scout team.

Prior to joining the Fighting Hawks, Dickinson coached several positions in five seasons at Buena Vista University. His first two seasons with BVU saw him work with the offensive line and tight ends, while also serving as the team’s film coordinator. In May 2014, Dickinson took over as the team’s defensive line coach and recreating coordinator where he designed and implemented defensive game plans.

Dickinson also spent two seasons with Minot State as a graduate assistant during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Along with coaching the offensive line, Dickinson also served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Beavers.

As a player, Dickinson was a four-year letterwinner and a three-year starter on the defensive line at Buena Vista. In the spring of 2010, he received his bachelor’s degree in exercise science at Buena Vista and his master's degree in education from Minot State in 2019.
