2014: Butala stood 6-2 with a 1.93 ERA in eight starts, including three complete games, and 11 appearances for MSU...Registered a .195 opponent batting average and 43 strikeouts in 56.0 innings pitched...Earned his first career win in his first career start vs. No. 6 Grand Valley State on Mar. 10...Struck out a career-high 12 batters in a complete-game at U-Mary on April 9...Twirled eight shutout innings against St. Cloud State in the NSIC Tournament...Earned a complete-game win in a 3-1 triumph over Seton Hill on May 28 at the national finals.

2013: Made four relief appearances for MSU and tallied a 5.79 ERA in 4.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts...Scored the final Maverick run of the season after pinch-running against Tampa in the NCAA DII National Championship game.

2012:  Appeared in ten games (all in relief) freshman season...Sported 1-1 record and 2.66 ERA while striking out 12 batters in 20-1 innings of work...Threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief with no hits and one strike out vs. Southwest Minnesota State to get first win as a Maverick April 30...Tossed 0.2 innings of scoreless relief as MSU claimed 9-7 win over St. Cloud State in 2012 NSIC tournament May 12.

2011:  Redshirted.

High School: Two-year letter winner for the Spartans… Led team to State AA Championship during senior season… Selected all-conference, all-state, all-area and Lion’s All-Star as a senior… Posted a 2.20 ERA in 65 innings pitched on his way to winning Top Pitcher Award on team during his senior campaign. 

Personal: Born Sept. 4, 1991… Pre-physical therapy major… Son of Matt and Carmen Butala.
