Biography

2022: Played and started in four of Minnesota States 13 games… Had 21 catches for 303 yards… Also had three receiving touchdowns… Saw a season-high of 95 receiving yards vs. Northern St… Was named to the All-NSIC Team of Excellence, a Semifinalist for William V. Campbell Trophy, and was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week.

2021: Played in all 11 games, while making 10 starts…Led the Maverick receiving corps with 64 catches for 1,064 receiving yards, becoming just the seventh Maverick in program history to record 1,000 receiving yards or more in a season…Recorded more than 100 receiving yards in six games, including a career-high 183 yards and two touchdowns against Southwest Minnesota State…Named to the All-NSIC First Team and the NSIC All-Academic Team.

2020: No season due to COVID-19...Named to the NSIC All-Academic Team.

2019: Played in 13 games, including four starts for the Mavericks…Caught 13 passes for 262 yards and two touchdowns…Caught two passes for 42 yards and a touchdown against Upper Iowa…Also caught a 22 yard touchdown pass against Wayne State.

2018: Played in all 14 games, including one start, as a wide receiver…Finished third on the team in catches (16) and receiving yards (286)…Caught a season-high four passes against St. Cloud State…Tallied a season-high 50 receiving yards vs. Minot State…Caught a 27-yard touchdown pass vs. Concordia-St. Paul…Caught three passes vs. Ferris State in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.

2017: Redshirted.

High School: A three-sport athlete from Onalaska, Wis., Sample competed in football, basketball and track and field at Onalaska High School…Was a three-year letterwinner and a two-year starter for the football team…Played in 10 games during his junior season where he caught 52 passes for 892 yards and 14 touchdowns… Claimed all-conference, all-region and an All-State honorable mention as a junior… Went on to set school records in reception yards (1,407) and touchdown catches (22) as a senior…He also owns the school record for career catches, reception yards and touchdown catches…Along with first team all-conference honors, he also claimed First Team All-State honors from the WFCA and AP All-State Second Team honors…Helped his team to a 9-2 record his senior season, en route to claiming the team’s first conference championship in 10 years…One of five finalists for the Al Toon Award which is awarded to the top wide receiver in Wisconsin.

Personal: Jalen is the son of Jerry and Kelly Sample…Born March 19, 1999…Intends to major in sport management.
