MANKATO, Minn. — Minnesota State (26-20, 13-9 NSIC) split its doubleheader against Concordia-St. Paul (23-20, 12-8 NSIC) on Sunday, April 19 at the MSU Softball Diamond, securing a 4–2 victory in game one before falling 4–3 in an extra-inning thriller in game two.

Game 1 | Minnesota State 4, Concordia-St. Paul 2
The Mavericks jumped to an early lead in the opener with a three-run first inning, while CSP managed just one hit throughout the game. Shortstop Chloe Brandt walked to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a double by Finley Anderson. Senior Gianna Lara followed with a double to right center, driving in both Brandt and Anderson. Lara later advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nyah Hulbert, giving MSU a 3–0 lead.

In the third inning, Brandt singled and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Anderson. Lara delivered again with a single up the middle, driving in Brandt to extend the lead to 4–0.

Concordia-St. Paul responded in the fifth inning with two unearned runs, capitalizing on errors to cut the deficit to 4–2. The Mavericks held firm the rest of the way to secure the win.

Junior Maddie Oetzmann delivered a complete-game performance, allowing just one hit over seven innings. Oetzmann recorded four strikeouts while issuing six walks, throwing 123 pitches with 73 strikes. Despite allowing two runs, neither was earned, improving her record to 12-6 on the season.

Lara led the offense with three RBIs and two hits, including a double. Brandt scored two runs and reached base twice, while Anderson added a double, a run scored, and a walk.

Game 2 | Minnesota State 3, Concordia-St. Paul 4
Game two marked the longest contest of the season, as Minnesota State fell 4–3 in 10 innings. The Mavericks totaled nine hits, but the Golden Bears pushed across the decisive run in the top of the tenth.

Minnesota State struck first in the second inning when Hannah Tong singled, followed by a hit from Izzy Hycnar. A walk by Avery Dorman loaded the bases, and Carly Kimmes drove in two runs with a single to left field to give MSU a 2–0 lead.

Concordia-St. Paul answered in the third inning with three runs, using timely hits and an error to score two unearned runs before adding another on a sacrifice fly to take a 3–2 lead.

The Mavericks tied the game in the sixth inning when Maddie Helin walked and advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on another wild pitch to make it 3–3. The game remained tied through the ninth.

In the tenth, CSP used a walk and two singles to set up a sacrifice fly, taking a 4–3 lead. Lara reached on an error in the bottom half, but MSU was unable to bring in the tying run.

Kimmes led the offense with two RBIs, while Lara recorded two hits. Tong scored a run and added a sacrifice, contributing to the Mavericks' offensive effort.

"The team showed that we always have a chance and are never willing to give up," said Lara. "Even though we lost the second game, we still won the first, and that's showing we can compete with anyone on any given day."
