ST. CLOUD, Minn. — No. 15 Minnesota State delivered a strong road performance Friday night, earning a 4–1 win over St. Cloud State at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The victory improves the Mavericks to 13-15-2 overall and 7-15-2 in conference play.
Minnesota State set the tone early with
Kamryn Van Batavia scoring at 8:26 of the first period off an assist from
Taylor Otremba, giving the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. Goaltender
Hailey Hansen was sharp in net, turning aside every shot she faced.
The Mavericks built momentum in the second period.
Ayla Puppe doubled the lead at 17:59 with helpers from
Whitney Tuttle and
Ava Guillemette. Just seconds later,
Mercury Bischoff found the back of the net, with Van Batavia and Otremba picking up assists, sending Minnesota State into the third period with a commanding 3-0 advantage.
After St. Cloud State broke through midway through the third, Minnesota State stayed composed. Otremba sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 18:32, capping off a complete team effort.
"It was a great bounce back effort today." Said associate head coach Jeff Giesen. "We played a solid 60 minutes and happy to get the win today."
