MANKATO, Minn. — The Minnesota State Mavericks (13-17-2, 7-17-2) fell 5–1 to the top-ranked University of Wisconsin Badgers (27-3-2, 21-3-2) Saturday at home.
Wisconsin opened the scoring at 11:54 of the first period before adding a power-play goal at 8:21. Minnesota State responded at 7:54 when Ava Guillemette scored off assists from Makayla Moran and Whitney Tuttle to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Badgers answered with a power-play goal at 5:57 to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
Wisconsin extended its lead to 4-1 at 4:18 of the second period. The Mavericks had a power-play opportunity late in the frame but were unable to convert.
Minnesota State continued to generate chances in the third period but could not break through. Wisconsin added a late goal at 18:44 to secure the 5-1 final. Kaydence Roeske made 33 saves in net.
Minnesota State travels to face University of St. Thomas on Friday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. CT in St. Paul.
