Mavericks Set to Face Boston College to Close Out East Coast Road Trip

10/25/2026 10:03:00 AM

MANKATO, Minn. -- The Minnesota State women's hockey team continues their east coast trip as they take on Boston College at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Monday at 10 a.m. CT.

The Mavericks are 3-4-1 (0-4 WCHA) on the season and will Face the Eagles off the back of competing in the 2026 Ice Breaker Tournament in Boston, Mass. On Friday, MSU faced Robert Morris to kick off the four team tournament. A scoreless first period saw Kaydence Roeske stand tall in net. In the second, the Colonials got on the board first before Anika Stromme would tie it with her first collegiate goal just three minutes later. The Mavericks would then take the lead with an Ayla Puppe power play goal, but RMU tied it heading into the third period. Zoe Lopez and Puppe would both score within a minute of each other to put the Mavericks up two, as they added two empty netters to close out a 6-3 win, advancing to the championship game.

On Saturday, the Mavericks took on #14 Yale for the first time ever as they looked to win the Ice Breaker tournament. Audrey Garton would score on a breakaway as a Maverick penalty expired to give the Mavericks the first goal of a game for the first time this season. Hailey Hansen started in net and was saving everything that came her way before the Bulldogs got on the board with 8.9 left in the first period. The Bulldogs would score the only goal of the second period and also scored the first goal of the third period, both on the power play.

Makayla Moran scored a beauty of a goal to cut the lead to one with over 11 minutes remaining. Eventually Hansen would leave the net as the Mavericks looked to tie it in the final minutes, and they did just that. In a net-front scrum the puck would eventually squirt out an onto the stick of Lopez, and she was able to deposit it into the empty net, tying the game with 22 seconds left. After a scoreless overtime frame, the Mavericks would lose 2-1 in a five round shootout, but they came away with the tie against a ranked opponent.

Scouting Boston College:
The Eagles are 4-2 so far this season (2-1 HEA) and just wrapped up a series split against Cornell University. On Friday the two teams were scoreless through two periods, but BC would strike first getting a power play goal from Sarah Powers. They held Cornell off the board for the remainder of the game, adding an empty net goal for a 2-0 win over a ranked opponent. Avah Sedore would make 39 saves en route to the shutout.

In the series finale Cornell would score twice early before Powers scored again. Boston College eventually went behind 5-2 before getting a late goal to make it 5-3, but they were unable to crawl back in the game.
Powers and Ava Thomas are tied for the team lead with five goals and six assists leading the Eagles on the offensive end. Jilian Klein, Maxim Tremblay and Callie Rice each have four goals rounding out a strong attack. Thomas has put 50 shots on the net through just six games, showing a willingness to constantly fire pucks at opposing goaltenders.

Sedore has started four games and has a .935 save percentage while holding a 2.40 goals against average for a 2-2 record, and the shutout she recorded over the weekend. Bailey Callaway and Bella Pomarico have also seen time in net allowing just one goal combined as Callaway is 2-0 with a shutout.

All-Time vs. The Eagles:
The Mavericks and Eagles have only gone head-to-head twice. Their only games came in December of 1999 as they would split the series. The Mavericks would win the first meeting 5-2 before dropping the finale 7-4. Those games also took place at the Eagles home ice.

The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+
