MANKATO, Minn. -- The No. 3 Minnesota State women's soccer team dropped one spot to No. 4 in the latest update of the DII Women's Soccer NPI Rankings, while comfortably being first in the central region.
The NCAA Power Index (NPI) is a ranking system used in college athletics that is used to evaluate a team's performance beyond just record. NPI considers game results, and strength of schedule to determine a team's NPI ranking. Calculations update throughout the season as teams play more games and opponents NPI value changes. The final NPI ranking cannot be determined until all games and rankings of the season are complete.
The Mavericks sit third with an NPI of 62.0119 trailing only DBU (64.730), Florida Tech (62.975), and Fairmont State (62.24). MSU faced MSU Moorhead and Minnesota Crookston this past week and won both games 5-0 and 7-0 respectively. UMary is the next highest NSIC team who sit in 38th place. On the season the Mavericks are 13-1-1 while carrying a 10-1-1 record in the NSIC.
The NSIC, the Mid America Athletic Association (MIAA), and the Great American Conference (GAC) make up the 36 team NCAA Central Region. Automatic bids will be awarded to the winners of each conferences postseason tournament.
