MANKATO, Minn. -- The No. 7 Minnesota State women's soccer team sits third in the first update of the DII Women's Soccer NPI Rankings, while comfortably being first in the central region.
The NCAA Power Index (NPI) is a ranking system used in college athletics that is used to evaluate a team's performance beyond just record. NPI considers game results, and strength of schedule to determine a team's NPI ranking. Calculations update throughout the season as teams play more games and opponents NPI value changes. The final NPI ranking cannot be determined until all games and rankings of the season are complete.
The Mavericks sit third with an NPI of 62.088 trailing only DBU (63.769), and Florida Tech (63.286). The two top opponents MSU have defeated this year are Central Missouri who are 15th (59.103) and Grand Valley State who are 17th (58.922).
The NSIC, the Mid America Athletic Association (MIAA), and the Great American Conference (GAC) make up the 36 team NCAA Central Region. Automatic bids will be awarded to the winners of each conferences postseason tournament.Â
