BEMIDJI, Minn. — No. 13/14 Minnesota State (12-13-2, 6-13-2) earned a 3-0 win over Bemidji State (5-19-3, 2-18-1) Friday night at the Sanford Center. Goaltender Hailey Hansen recorded her fifth shutout of the season, stopping every shot she faced.
Minnesota State opened the scoring midway through the first period. At 5:46, Ava Guillemette scored at even strength, assisted by Taylor Otremba and Ayla Puppe.
The Mavericks doubled their lead in the third period when Lauren Zawoyski found the net at 6:12, finishing a play set up by Sophie Stramel. It marked Zawoyski's second goal of the season.
Later in the period, Mercury Bischoff sealed the win with her team-leading 15th goal of the season at 9:05, with an assist from Kamryn Van Batavia.
"It was a great team effort." said associate head coach Jeff Giesen. "Hailey was outstanding and our defense defended and transitioned the puck well. I thought our forwards created a lot of great chances. We're excited to head Grand Rapids tomorrow and keep things rolling."
Minnesota State controlled play defensively throughout the night, keeping Bemidji State scoreless in all three periods.
