Mavericks Drop Saturday Game at Michigan Tech 4-1

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Minnesota State fell to Michigan Tech 4-1 in men's hockey Saturday night at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Mavericks posted 47 shots on goal but the Huskies blocked 21 more to skate away winners in the weekend series.

Luca Fasciano skated through a defenseman and snuck in the first goal of the game for the Huskies 9:25 into the opening period. Michael Cicek and Teydon Trembecky assisted on Fasciano's even-strength tally.

Kalem Parker made it 2-0 Tech with a long-range shot from the right point. Then the Huskies increased the lead to 3-0 in the second period. Max Koskipirtti connected off the rush to Isaac Gordon on the MTU top line. Gordon deposited his fourth of the season at 6:42.

Fin Williams got Minnesota State on the scoreboard in the third period. After a net front scramble, Williams corralled the loose puck and wrapped in his third of the season. The Mavericks continued to apply pressure late in the third period but the Huskies cleared the puck to neutral ice, and Carson Latimer skated it into an empty net.

The Mavericks went 0-2 on the power play and were never shorthanded. Owen Bartoszkiewicz stopped 46 shots for Tech while Alex Tracy made 22 saves, skating in his 100th career game for the Mavericks. Koskipirtti finished with three assists for MTU. Jack Smith won 14 of 17 faceoffs for MSU.
