MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will be formally inducted on Friday, September 26, in Taylor Center.
The new Hall of Fame members in the student-athlete category include Ashley (Baer) Welch (women's swim & dive), Marina (Bugaenco) Loch (women's tennis), Harvey Martin (baseball), Roger Meyer (football/track & field), and Chris Reed (football/track & field). Greg Vandermause will be inducted as the Jim Schaffer Service Award winner and Joel Nielsen will be inducted in the Builders Category. Head coach Lori Meyer is also inducted to the Hall of Fame on Friday as well as the 2014 Maverick Football Team.
Biographies of this year's Hall of Fame inductees are listed below.
Greg Vandermause (Jim Schaffer Service, Video Production Manager and Director of Creative Content)
Production Studio Manager for Bethany Lutheran College, where he oversees staff members, budgets, equipment and overall direction of the studio, producing Minnesota State men's and women's hockey game streams and broadcasts...Coordinated TV content at ESPN after college...Today, focuses on mentoring people interested in studying broadcasting, helping identify students' passions and teaching the importance of building relationships...Has been a key cog in MSU's 25-year relationship with BLC as its video production provider.
Joel Nielsen (Builder's Category, University Administration)
Sports administrator from Latimer, Iowa...Served as the athletic director for Kent State (2010-21)...Prior to his appointment at Kent State, he served as athletic director at the University of South Dakota (2003-10) and at Colorado College (2001-03)...He also served as associate athletic director at Wake Forest (1993-01) and assistant athletic director at Illinois State (1992-93)...From 1990 to 1991 he was athletic development assistant at Northern Illinois...He is an alumnus of Minnesota State where he played football and baseball and earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees.
Lori Meyer (MSU, 1985-25, softball)
Coached 41 seasons of softball at Minnesota State from 1985-25...Won a total of 1,444 games during her 41 seasons and retired as the winningest coach in NCAA DII softball history... Her student-athletes earned 31 All-American honors, 130 all-conference honors and 193 academic all-conference honors during her tenure...Won three NCC Championships and five NSIC Championships...Guided her team to 18 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including an NCAA Championship in 2017...Named to the NFCA Hall of Fame in 2013...Served as Minnesota State's Senior Woman Administrator.
Ashley (Baer) Welch (MSU, 2005-09, women's swimming & diving)
4x NCAA qualifier...4x team MVP...2005-06 NCC Freshman of the Year...6x-All-NCC...2x All-American...11x NCAA Honorable Mention All-American... Owned 8 different school records at end of her college career (200 free, 200 back, 200 IM, 400 IM and four relays)...2008-09 Academic All-District...2x Academic All-NCC...Maverick Achievement Award recipient...Magna Cum Laude graduate.
Marina (Bugaenco) Loch (MSU, 2006-09, women's tennis)
Posted a 20-0 No. 1 singles record during the 2007 regular season and won the NCC No. 1 singles championship...Went 16-4 in doubles matches during the 2007 regular season, including a 15-4 No. 1 doubles record and won the NCC No. 1 doubles championship... Won the NSIC No. 1 singles championship in 2009 behind a 24-1 record...Won NSIC No. 1 doubles championship with her teammate Sarah Madigan after going 16-9...Earned All-NSIC First Team honors in singles and doubles...Also named the NSIC Player of the Year...Helped Mavericks advance to 2009 NCAA Tournament.
Harvey Martin (MSU, 2012-13, baseball)
Played two seasons from 2012-13...Put together a 17-1 record, to go with 136 strikeouts in 149 innings...Helped team win an NSIC Championship in 2012 and a pair of NSIC Tournament Championships...Helped team reach College World Series twice and was the starting pitcher in the NCAA Championship game...All-NSIC First Team and NSIC Newcomer of the Year in 2012...Named the Daktronics Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year, the Rawlings/ABCA National Pitcher of the Year and the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Year in 2013...Earned All-American First Team honors from Daktronics, Rawlings/ABCA and NCBWA.
Roger Meyer (MSU, 1960-63, football & men's track & field)
Football and Track three-year letter winner...Two-time football all-conference selection...Played offensive and defensive tackle and was Co-Captain of football team in 1962...Football team and Northern Intercollegiate Conference MVP in 1962, at the time was only lineman ever to win conference honor...Football team MVP in 1962…Conference discus champion and set team record as a senior in 1963...Received master's degree from MSU in '66...Athletic director/teacher/coach at Horicon (Wis.).
Chris Reed (MSU, 2010-14, football & men's track & field)
Played in 47 games on the offensive line, including 35 starts...Helped the Mavericks win three NSIC Championships…Helped MSU advance to the NCAA Tournament three times (2012-14), including a trip to the NCAA Championship game in 2014…Named to the D2Football.com All-American First Team in 2014…Reed has played in 71 games over nine seasons during his tenure in the NFL… Also competed on the Minnesota State track and field team...Earned 11 All-American honors in multiple events, including a pair of NCAA Championships in the outdoor shot put.
2014 Football Team
Went 14-1 as the Mavericks advanced to the NCAA Championship game for the first time in team history... Went 11-0 during the regular season to secure a co-NSIC Championship and an NSIC South Division Championship...Outscored opponents 600-193 during the season...Set several school records during the season including points scored (600), rushing yards (3,625), rushing attempts (699), pass completion percentage (61.6%), total offense (6,704), all purpose yards (8,103), punt return yards (492) and tackles (1,034)...Received a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament, before defeating Pittsburg State (24-21 OT), Minnesota Duluth (44-17) and Concord (47-13) to advance to the NCAA Championship game...Lost to CSU-Pueblo 13-0 in the NCAA Championship game...Eleven Mavericks received All-NSIC First Team honors, including Joshua Gordon who was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year...Nick Peruccini was named the NSIC Offensive Newcomer of the Year...Josh Meeker, Connor Thomas and Justin Otto received CoSIDA Academic All-American honors...Head Coach Todd Hoffner was named the AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year...Joshua Gordon claimed AFCA All-American honors...Gordon, Tyler Henderson and Josh Meeker received All-American honors from both AP and Daktronics...Chris Reed, Meeker, Gordon and Henderson claimed D2Football.com All-American honors, while Meeker, Gordon, Henderson and Nathan Hancock earned Don Hansen All-American honors.
