CHARLESTON, Ill. – Minnesota State tennis upended Division I Eastern Illinois 5-2 at Darling Courts Sunday. The Mavericks rebounded after the Panthers took the team doubles point.
Freia Lawrence won at No. 1 singles 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 over Aleyla Wooten and Avery Stillwell excelled at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2.
Hana Minisy also prevailed at No. 4 singles in three sets 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 over Luisa Renovales Salazar.

"Things went really well for our team today," said head coach
Matt Hokanson. "I was proud of how we responded in singles and showed the toughness to get a win against a Division I team for the first time in program history. Once we started singles, seeing the team bring all the energy, I felt it was the turning point in the match."

Playing with a 3-2 lead in the match score, the Mavericks won a pair of three setters to close out the Panthers on the road.

The Mavericks (4-1) continue their road trip at Division II Quincy University on Tuesday, March 11 at noon.
