MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State Mavericks (17-2, 11-1 NSIC) fell to the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (11-10, 7-5 NSIC), 13-6, in the final game of their series Sunday afternoon at ISG Field.
The Bulldogs took control early, scoring four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run triple. Minnesota State responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, including a solo home run by
Zach Stroh and an RBI double from
Ike Mezzenga.
Duluth extended its lead throughout the game, adding a home run in the third and delivering a three-run homer in the fifth. The Mavericks cut into the deficit in the sixth with a two-run homer from
Louis Magers, but Duluth's pitching held strong to secure the win.
Mezzenga, Magers, and
Matthew Fleischhacker each contributed RBIs for Minnesota State. The Bulldogs outhit the Mavericks 17-10 while taking advantage of key scoring opportunities.
The Mavericks are back in action next weekend as they travel to St. Cloud State for a four game series.
