#14 Mavericks Close Out Huskies at Home

MANKATO, Minn. – With a 3-2 win on Saturday, Minnesota State men's hockey completed a CCHA series sweep over Michigan Tech at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center. The Huskies converted twice on the power play, but goaltender Alex Tracy made 27 saves and MSU scored two third period goals to seal the victory.

Minnesota State (8-2-4, 5-1-2 CCHA) won its fourth straight CCHA game and hits the road to face Northern Michigan Friday, Nov. 28 at 6:07 p.m. CT.

Sophomore Jacob Conrad skated into a one-timer from the blueline and potted his third goal of the season for the Mavericks 4:14 into the first period. Junior Evan Murr (7) and sophomore Alex Zetterberg (4) assisted on the only tally for either team in the first 20 minutes and the Huskies led 9-5 in shots.

Kalem Parker hit the crossbar for Michigan Tech early in the second period. Later, Reid Andresen tied it on the power play after he one-timed a shot on the weak side following one-touch passes from Noah Reinhart and Stiven Sardarian. Max Koskipirtti helped Michigan Tech kill a late minor penalty as the teams headed to the break 1-1.

The Mavericks scored two goals in 2:15 to start the final period. First, Murr's wrister from the top of the right circle pinballed in the crease and crossed the line. Murr's sixth of the season leads all CCHA defensemen. Luigi Benincasa kicked out the puck from Liam Watkins on the faceoff, and both assisted on the play. Zetterberg picked up his second goal of the weekend one minute and 10 seconds later. Mason Wheeler and Luigi Benincasa collected assists.

Tom Leppa deflected Stiven Sardarian's shot in front of Tracy for Michigan Tech's second goal. The Huskies' second power play marker came at 12:48 in the third period but the Mavericks surrendered no more, including the final two minutes with an empty net for MTU.

The Mavericks did not allow an even strength goal in the series and shut out the Huskies 3-0 on Friday. MSU has also not lost in regulation since opening the season at Omaha on Oct. 10.
