The first period commenced with Minnesota State securing the initial faceoff, setting the tone for a competitive opening frame. Despite multiple scoring opportunities, including shots from
Makayla Moran and
Lauren Goldsworthy, Ava Hills of Bemidji consistently denied the Mavericks, maintaining a scoreless game. The Mavericks effectively controlled the puck during power plays, but the Beavers' defense held firm. The period concluded without any goals, leaving the score tied at 0-0.
Minnesota State effectively killed an early penalty when
Sophie Stramel was sent off for cross-checking at 00:21, as Bemidji failed to capitalize during their power play.
