MANKATO, Minn. — The Minnesota State women's hockey team (4-0-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) ended their first home series with a 3–2 win over Lindenwood (0-6-0, 0-0-0 AHA) on Friday night at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center. Eight different Mavericks registered points in the victory as Minnesota State improved to 4–0-0 on the year.
The Mavericks set the tone early in the first period, controlling possession and generating several scoring chances. Their persistence paid off when
Lauren Goldsworthy found the back of the net on the power play at 4:26, marking her fourth goal of the season.
Whitney Tuttle and
Ayla Puppe assisted on the play as Minnesota State capitalized on its first power-play opportunity of the night.
Lindenwood managed to even the score midway through the second period with a goal from Michaela Paulinyova, but the Mavericks quickly responded. Just over ten minutes later,
Mercury Bischoff reclaimed the lead for MSU, scoring her second goal of the season off a setup from
Kendall Hassler and
Lucie Tenenbaum.
The Lions tied the game again early in the third period on a goal from Lucie Quarto, but Minnesota State wasted little time regaining the advantage. Less than two minutes later,
Makayla Moran tallied the eventual game-winner—her first of the season—off an assist from
Lauren Zawoyski giving the Mavericks a 3–2 lead they would not relinquish.
Minnesota State outshot Lindenwood throughout the contest, applying steady offensive pressure and forcing the Lions to stay on the defensive. The Mavericks also showcased depth across their lineup, with eight players contributing points in the win.
Goaltender
Kaydence Roeske made her first appearance on the ice and made several key saves in net to preserve the lead, holding off a late Lindenwood push that included an empty-net situation in the final minute.
The Mavericks finished the night 1-for-5 on the power play and will ahead as they start WCHA play next weekend as they host St. Thomas.
