MARSHALL, Minn. — #2 Minnesota State (7-0-1) defeated Southwest Minnesota State (2-6-0) 2-0 on Friday at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center. The Mavericks dominated with 32 shots, 11 on target, while holding the Mustangs to just six shots. The scoring opened in the second half with Minnesota State netting two goals. Sophomore goalkeeper
Lauren McAlpine recorded a shutout with four saves, contributing to the team's strong defensive performance. This victory extended Minnesota State's impressive shutout streak to eight matches.

The first half began with the Mavericks establishing an offensive presence, attempting several shots early on. Junior

Addison Clarey saved by the Mustangs' goalkeeper Kennady Krebs, the Mavericks could not capitalize on their opportunities.
Defensively, McAlpine stood strong in goal, making key saves against shots from Laney Brill and Mercy Godfrey to keep the match level. As the half progressed, the Mavericks continued to press forward, with
Marin Johnson and
Ruthie Gyasi each testing the opposition's defense. The first half concluded with the score remaining 0-0, as the Mavericks' offensive efforts were met by strong defensive play from the Mustangs.
The second half began with the Mavericks maintaining offensive pressure, as Clarey and senior
Maille Mathis initiated early attempts on goal, challenging the Mustangs' defense. The persistence paid off in the 66th minute when
Mila Rustin's effort found the net, giving the Mavericks a 1-0 lead.
Continuing to press, the Mavericks extended their advantage in the 77th minute through Archer, who scored with an assist from
Courtney Kovacs. The team controlled much of the play, with multiple shots on target, while McAlpine made crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet. The Mavericks closed the half with a 2-0 victory, securing the win on the road.
Archer scored one goal and took five shots, with two of those on target. Rustin scored the game-winning goal while taking four shots, with one on goal. McAlpine recorded a shutout with four saves in goal, facing six shots. Kovacs contributed with one assist, enhancing the team's offensive efforts.
In their next match, the Mavericks travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., to face off against the University of Sioux Falls on October 5. The match is set for 1 p.m. as the team looks to secure a another victory away from home.
