#23 Minnesota State Secures Season Sweep Over Jamestown

MANKATO, Minn. — On Friday, Oct. 24, the No. 23-ranked Minnesota State volleyball team (17-4, 9-4 NSIC) swept Jamestown (9-11, 4-9 NSIC) in straight sets at the Taylor Center. The Mavericks delivered a balanced effort, recording 42 kills and 77 digs in the win.

Emily Kern led the Mavericks with 12 kills and contributed significantly on defense with seven total blocks, setting a new season high in blocks this season. Ellie Kline was a defensive standout, recording 22 digs. Mary Satori added depth to the defense with 17 digs and also contributed 10 kills. Jadyn Lester orchestrated the offense with 33 assists and added two service aces.

Minnesota State opened the first set by erasing an early deficit, evening the score at 2-2 on a service ace from Satori. A kill by Jaelyn LaPlante briefly put the Mavericks in front, but Jamestown answered to keep the set tightly contested. Midway through, MSU gained control with a strong defensive stretch highlighted by blocks from Kern and Satori, fueling a decisive five-point run to go up 14-9. The Mavericks maintained their lead with steady execution, as Satori continued to deliver key kills across the entire floor. Despite Jamestown's late push, Minnesota State held firm, and a finishing kill from Avery Rosenberg sealed the 25-20 win in the opening set.

MSU started the second set with a balanced offensive rhythm, as Rosenberg and Satori each recorded early kills to keep the score close. After falling behind, the Mavericks regained momentum with timely plays from Kern and Avery Klein, both delivering key kills to apply pressure on the Jamestown defense. The visitors briefly pulled ahead, but Minnesota State capitalized on Jamestown's miscues to even the score. A strong serving performance highlighted by an ace from Morgan Bjella and a block by Rosenberg put the Mavericks' in a  back-and-forth battle. A decisive kill from Satori, ultimately lifted Minnesota State to a 28-26 victory in the second set.

Minnesota State carried its strong play into the third set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead behind a pair of service aces from Lester and several Jamestown errors. Kern and Satori continued to drive the offense, with Kern tallying multiple kills and Satori converting on well-placed sets from Lester to keep the Mavericks in command. Defensively, Minnesota State stayed solid as Kern and Satori combined for timely blocks, while Rosenberg steadied the back line. A set of kills from Klein and Kern added to the offensive push, extending the lead to 17-9. The Mavericks controlled the remainder of the set, with Satori closing it out with a final snap of the ball, to secure a 25-15 win to complete the sweep.

Minnesota State continues its homestand on Saturday, Oct. 25, welcoming No. 22 Northern State to the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
