MANKATO, Minn. – Logan Morrell swept a rebound across for the tap-in by Isaac Gordon and Michigan Tech defeated Minnesota State 1-0 in overtime Saturday night at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in front of 4,825 fans.

Scoreless in regulation, the Mavericks killed the front half of a major penalty but the Huskies eventually capitalized on the 4-on-3 to split the CCHA weekend and keep MSU from sweeping the four-game season series.

The game-winning play started with a right-point shot from Stiven Sardarian.
Alex Tracy stopped his wrister but Morrell one-timed the puck into the a mostly empty weak side after the shovel across from Morrell.

Minnesota State (16-6-2, 11-3-2 CCHA) heads to Ferris State next weekend in the top position in the conference standings with 10 games remaining in the regular season.

Ryan Manzella earned the shutout for MTU after stopping all 31 shots in just his fifth appearance in a Husky sweater.

Manzella denied senior
Brian Carrabes on a breakaway in the first period and the Huskies led 10-7 in shots on goal after 20 minutes. Then
Alex Tracy extended his left pad on Stiven Sardarian's wraparound attempt in the final minute of the frame.

The Mavericks outshot the Huskies 13-8 in the middle stanza.
Brett Moravec spun and slid across a pass to
Luc Wilson near the midpoint of the third but Michigan Tech's Ryder Matter hustled back to break up the chance.Â

Adam Eisele stepped up to the top of the circle but had his shot turned aside by Manzella's blocker. Manzella also snagged
Luke Ashton's open shot from the point with under four minutes to play.

Penalties abound late after a scramble in front of the Maverick goal. Four players were sent to the box with minors. Then the Huskies won a challenge for contact to the head, which sent
Ralfs Bergmanis to the locker room at 18:06. The Mavericks successfully killed the finals 1:54 of regulation before Gordon converted in overtime, his fourth of the season.

Tracy (16-6-2) finished with 24 saves but the Mavericks went 0-4 on the power play. Michigan Tech won 31-51 faceoffs and closed 1-3 with the extra attacker. MSU defeated MTU 5-2 on Friday night.
