MANKATO, Minn.—No. 22 Minnesota State (3-1-2) took down Augustana (6-1-1) by a final score of 3-1 Sunday afternoon at The Pitch.
Sophomore
Maddix Archer was the one to look out for in today's match up against the Vikings scoring not one but two goals, to go along with one assist.
In the 14
th minute of the match, junior
Avery Korsching passed the ball to Archer, who then found the back of the net putting the Mavericks up 1-0
Then in the 24
th minute, a goal from AU's Madely White tied the score at 1-1 scored a goal with the assist going to Ally Hamski.
Less than 10 minutes later freshman
Marin Johnson headed the ball into the net, with Archer getting the assist, to give the Mavericks a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
In the 48
th minute, a handball by AU gave the Mavericks a penalty shot. Archer stepped in and scored in the bottom right corner for her second goal of the match to increase MSU's lead to 3-1.
"We knew our competition was going to be tough last weekend, but to bounce back this weekend and show what were capable of from an attacking standpoint and to score on two good defensive teams especially," head coach
Brian Bahl said. "To score three goals is really encouraging moving forward and I am proud of how our team competed today."
No 22. Minnesota State takes on Minot State Friday at 3 p.m and University of Mary on Sunday at 1 p.m next weekend at The Pitch
