ATLANTA --- Former Minnesota State defensive back/return specialist Trey Vaval has signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons.

A native of Blue Springs, Mo., Vaval played two seasons with the Mavericks where he started in all 25 games for the Mavericks. Vaval was named to the All-NSIC First Team as a return specialist twice. As a defensive back he also received All-NSIC Second Team honors as a junior and All-NSIC First Team honors as a senior.

As a junior, Vaval was named to the D2CCA All-American Second Team. As a senior he garnered AFCA All-American Second Team accolades.

Vaval recorded 69 tackles during his two season at MSU, to go along with two interceptions. He also defended 14 passes. As a return specialist, Vaval ranks second all-time in punt return yards at Minnesota State with 704. During his junior season, he set a team season record with 439 punt return yards.

Minnesota State finished its 2023 season with a 9-3 record as it advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
