Maverick Men’s Basketball Adds Four to 2024-25 Recruiting Class

MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State men's basketball coach Matt Margenthlaer has announced four student-athletes will join the Maverick men's basketball team in the fall of 2024.

All signings and transfers are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Drew Daniel, Puolrah Gong, David Harmon and Caden Kirkman join the 2024-25 recruiting class along with Holden Arnaman, Colton Benson and Carson Schweim who committed to the Maverick men's basketball team last fall.

"Our recruiting class embodies the variety of talent that addresses every crucial need to help us to continue to chase championships," Margenthaler said. "This stellar class represents the future of our program, bringing talent, and commitment to excellence. I welcome them to our Maverick Family."

A guard from West Des Moines, Iowa, Drew Daniel has played in 68 games during the last four seasons with Northern Iowa. During the 2022-23 season he played in 31 games and tallied 73 points and 43 rebounds. Against Wartburg, he connected on 4-of-8 shots from the field as he tallied 11 points and three rebounds. Last season against Loras, Daniel notched five points and a season-high eight rebounds. He was named to the MVC Honor Roll twice and to the NABC Honors Court once.

Prior to joining Northern Iowa, Daniel competed at Dowling Catholic High School where he helped his team reach the state tournament in 2019 and 2020. He claimed all-conference second team honors and averaged 8.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

A guard from Mankato, Minn., Puolrah Gong competed with the men's basketball team at Kirkwood CC during the last two seasons. As a sophomore he averaged 8.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting 47.2% from the field. Against Marshalltown, he tallied a season-high 21 points as he connected on 8-of-9 shots from the field.

As a freshman Gong tallied 7.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, including a 25-point performance against Marshalltown. He scored at least 10 points in eight games during his freshman season. Against Iowa Wesleyan, Gong hauled in a season-high nine rebounds.

A guard from Omaha, Neb., David Harmon has played in all 59 games for Wayne State during the last two seasons. As a freshman, he shot 49.4% from the field as he tallied 105 points and 40 rebounds. During his sophomore season, Harmon averaged 10.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game as he shot 44.9% from the field. He also finished second on the team in three pointers made with 41. Against Southwest Minnesota State, Harmon tallied a career-high 21 points, which included a 3-of-5 showing from downtown.

Harmon claimed All-State first team honors as a member of the Millard North High School basketball team after posting 15.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as a senior. He also helped his team win a pair of state championships during his junior and senior seasons.

A forward from Wilton, Iowa, Caden Kirkman joins the Mavericks after playing one season at Augustana. Kirkman played in all 30 of Augie's games, including 20 starts, while averaging 8.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 56.1% from the field. He scored at least 10 points in 10 games, including a season-best 24 points and 10 rebounds against Minnesota Crookston as he connected on 10-of-12 shots from the field.

Prior to joining Augustana, Kirkman claimed All-State first team honors as a senior at Wilton High School as he notched 27.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per game while shooting 67% from the field. As a junior, he averaged 20.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game as well.

Minnesota State finished its season with a 35-2 record as it won the NCAA Championship.
