Griffons Clip Mavericks 7-0

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Minnesota State tennis dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 29 ranked Western Missouri State Friday afternoon at Genesis Health Club in non-conference play.

Chiara Carnelutti and Daria Podmogilnaia took a set at No. 2 doubles but the Mavericks struggled in singles and were shutout by an opponent for the first time this season.

"I am proud of how our team competed today," said head coach Tristen Bryant-Otake. "The Griffons are a fantastic team and we knew this was going to be one of the hardest matches of the season. The level of tennis was upped and I think for the most part we rose to the occasion. I am excited to see how we will do tomorrow."

The Mavericks (4-3) continue a stretch of five straight matches away from home when they travel to Maryville, Missouri to face No. 25 Northwest Missouri State Saturday at 11 a.m. Western Missouri State improved to 6-0.
