Minnesota State with Four Athletes Named to CSC 2023-24 Academic All-District Team

MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State women's basketball team had four players make the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for the 2023-24 season. Joey Batt, Natalie Bremer, Destinee Bursch and Emily Herzberg were all named to the Academic All-District Team.
 
The CSC recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
 
Batt is a senior from New Ulm, Minnesota. She has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.97. She is majoring in Elementary Education. In 2023-24, Batt, in 30 games, averaged 16.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.5 steals per game this season. She has amassed several awards for her performance this season, including being named a WBCA First Team All-American and the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year for the third time in her career. Batt is the all-time steals leader in program history with 370 takeaways and ranks second in all-time scoring with 1,914 points scored. Since the start of the postseason, Batt is averaging 19.3 points per game, which leads the team.
 
Bremer is an Exercise Science student from Lake City, Minnesota. She has accumulated a 3.55 GPA at Minnesota State. Bremer has started in every game for MSU this season. The sophomore is averaging 14.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game in 2023-24. She recently recorded her first double-double in the Mavericks' Central Region Tournament game against Fort Hays State, finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Bremer was named to the NSIC All-Conference First Team.
 
Bursch, who is double majoring in Sport Management and Applied Leadership, was also named to the Academic All-District Team. The Chaska, Minnesota native has a 3.50 GPA and is the Mavericks leading scorer in 2023-24. She has played in 34 games and is averaging 16 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game for Minnesota State this season. Bursch, too, was named to the NSIC All-Conference First Team and was named the NSIC Player of the Week twice.
 
Herzberg, who hails from Melrose, Wisconsin, is also an Exercise Science major. At Minnesota State, she has amassed a GPA of 3.58. Herzberg is averaging 8.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and two steals per game in 34 games played in 2023-24. Since the start of the Mavericks' postseason, all of Herzberg's numbers are up, and she is shooting an outstanding 44% from three over the past seven games. She was named to the NSIC All-Tournament Team for her performance in the conference tournament.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 16.

Minnesota State prepares to take on Cal State San Marcos (27-6) in the Final Four of the NCAA DII Women's Basketball Tournament, tonight, Wednesday, March 27 at 8:30 p.m. The game will take place at the Civic Arena in St. Joseph, Missouri.
