SIOUX CITY, Iowa. --- Minnesota State (10-10, 6-4 NSIC) split today's doubleheader against St. Cloud State (11-9, 7-3 NSIC) Thursday afternoon in Sioux City, S.D.
The first game of the doubleheader was a battle of the aces as junior
Spencer Wright (3-1) paired up with SCSU ace Luke Tupy (3-1) as the two pitchers only gave up two hits each through the first five innings.
After SCSU managed to plate one in the top of the second courtesy of infielder Sawyer Smith's second triple for the Huskies this season, SCSU plated its second run in the top of the sixth.
The Maverick bats responded in a big way scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.

Aidan Byrne two-out single to the second baseman, senior
Ryan Wickman smashed his fifth home run on the season tying the game at two. The next batter, sophomore
Louis Magers launch his fifth homer giving the Mavericks their first lead on the day.
Junior
Mitch Gutknecht closed the door on the Huskies in the top of the seventh collecting his second save on the season delivering the Mavericks 3-2 victory.
Things did not fall the same in the second game for the Mavericks as St. Cloud State downed Minnesota State by a final of 5-1 in game two.
Sophomore
Louis Magers had the lone RBI in game two driving home junior
Aidan Byrne for his second run on the day.
"Two well-played games today.
Spencer Wright did a great job on the mound keeping us in the game, head coach
Matt Magers stated. " Byrne, Wickman, and Magers had great at-bats all day which propelled our offense. In the second game, we had great at-bats to get baserunners on but were unable to get the ball to fall in."
The Mavericks are back in action tomorrow for another doubleheader against the Huskies starting at 1:30 p.m. in Wakefield, Neb.
