CLERMONT, Fla. --- The Minnesota State softball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday as it defeated Notre Dame College 10-2 in six innings and Southern New Hampshire 7-5.
MSU now owns a 15-3 record and has won its last six outings.
Game 1 Recap
Minnesota State began the day with a 10-2 win in six innings over Notre Dame College.
Senior
McKayla Armbruster (7-2) picked up the win as she allowed just two runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out 10. Allison Weilnau (1-1) took the loss as she allowed three runs, one earned in 2.2 innings.
After two innings, the Mavericks and the Falcons were tied at 1-1. MSU struck first as a single from junior
Ella Schulz and a throwing error in the bottom of the first brought around sophomore
Gianna Lara. NDC responded in the top of the second as Danielle Fick singled and stole second, before scoring on a Maverick throwing error.
The top of the third saw the Falcons take a 2-1 leader after an RBI-double from Avery Robinson. In the bottom of the inning, MSU jumped in front as an RBI-double from senior
Courtney Baxter and an RBI-single from junior
Cheyenne Behrends put MSU up 3-2. Lara then added an RBI-double in the fourth to put MSU up 4-2.
The fifth and the sixth innings would see the Mavericks add six more runs to give MSU the 10-2 win in six innings. The fifth saw junior
Marina Carter drive in a run with a single up the middle, before senior
Kylie Sullivan drove in two more with a double to right center. The sixth inning came to an end as RBI-triples from Baxter and Behrends, along with an RBI-single from freshman
Courtney Kessler, ended the game 10-2 in favor of the Mavericks.
Sullivan, Baxter and Behrends each drove in two runs. Behrends led the team in hits with three, while Baxter notched two. Baxter, Behrends, Carter and Lara all scored two runs as well.

Minnesota State finished the day with a 7-5 win over Southern New Hampshire.
Freshman
Maddie Oetzmann (6-1) earned the win as she allowed just one run on three hits, while striking out seven. Armbruster picked up her first save of the season as well. Amelia Freitas (0-1) took the loss as she allowed seven runs, five earned, on 12 hits in 6.2 innings.
Behrends broke the ice in the top of the second as she belted a solo home run to left center to give the Mavericks the early 1-0 lead. The Mavericks would then add two more runs in the top of the fifth as Kessler drove in freshman
Rhyan Fritz and
Kurstyn Patnode with an RBI-double to left center to put MSU up 3-0.
Bella Dickinson got the Penmen on the board in the bottom of the sixth hits a solo home run to left center to cut MSU's lead to 3-1.
In the top of the seventh, the Mavericks recorded four runs on five hits to extend their lead to 7-1. Schulz drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, before Baxter drove in two more with a double. Fritz added an RBI-single of her own as well.
SNHU would not go quietly in the bottom of the seventh however as the Penmen managed to score four runs via four hits and two Maverick errors in the field. Jordyn Resetar drove in a run with an RBI-triple, before Peyton Feldman notched an RBI-single. Two more would score on a single by Dickinson, before Armbruster got the final out to end the game 7-5 in favor of the Mavericks.
Fritz led the Mavericks with three hits, while Baxter and Kessler each drove in two runs.
"The offense did a nice job with runners in scoring position, capitalizing on our opportunities," said Minnesota State head coach
Lori Meyer. "Armbruster and Oetzmann both had solid outings on the mound. Defensively, we have to play better and clean up some things and work on closing the game out. Fortunately, our errors did not cost us a game today."
Minnesota State continues its road trip on Monday as it takes on Ashland at 12:30 p.m. (CST) and Grand Valley State at 3:00 p.m. (CST) in Winterhaven, Fla.
