Minnesota State Falls to Ohio Dominican

DAVENPORT, Fla. --- Minnesota State (5-6) fell to Ohio Dominican (5-2) Saturday morning at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

Sophomore Matthew Fleischhacker opened the game by being hit by a pitch and advancing to second on a junior Aidan Byrne single. After senior Ryan Wickman reached base on a fielder's choice, he moved Fleischhaker to third. The Mavericks surprised ODU with a double steal sending Wickman to second and allowing the Mavericks' second baseman to score.

Ohio Dominican responded with eight runs through the first three innings. The Mavericks gained traction again in the fifth inning after taking advantage of two ODU errors, allowing Wickman, junior Zach Stroh, and junior Nick Baker to score unearned runs. The only Maverick to register an RBI in the inning was senior Ryan Friedges- his 10th of the season.

After ODU extended its lead in the bottom of the fifth, 9-4, the Mavericks fought back adding two in their half of the sixth.

Fleischhaker got the Mavericks offense started once again working a one-out walk and later advanced to third on Byrne's double to left center field. Wickman grabbed his 11th RBI on the season on a sacrifice popup to shortstop. The next batter, junior Zach Stroh knocked in Byrne on an RBI double to center field.

Ohio Dominican hung on to win 10-6 following an additional run in the seventh for the Panthers.

"After a slow start, we battled back and made the game close at the end. Junior Derek Lilledahl kept us in the game with a solid relief performance," stated head coach Matt Magers. "I thought Byrne and Baker highlighted our offensive performance with multiple quality at-bats."

The Mavericks continue the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with Seton Hill University next on the schedule.
