Minnesota State prepares for Gophers this Weekend

MANKATO, Minn. -- Minnesota State (2-2, 0-2) will take on No. 4 Minnesota (4-3-1, 0-3-1) for its second home-and-home series of the 2024-25 season. The Mavericks travel to Ridder Arena Friday for a 5:02 p.m. puck drop, followed by a 2:02 p.m. start at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center on Saturday. Saturday's contest is broadcast on FOX 9+. 

The Gophers come into the weekend as number six in the WCHA standings and number four in the USCHO.com national rankings. 

Last Time Out:  

Minnesota State was idle over the weekend but battled WCHA foe St. Thomas Oct 11-12. The Mavericks dropped both games by finals of 4-3 and 3-2.  

Whitney Tuttle leads the Mavericks with five goals and one assist this season, collecting six points.  

Junior Taylor Otremba notched the first goal for MSU in the home-and-home series in the 16th minute of the first period. While Tuttle scored the second one in the 16th minute of the second period.  

Graduate Student Jamie Nelson led the team with eight shots against St. Thomas.  

Suzette Faucher and Jessie McPherson split the weekend and combined for seven goals allowed on 44 shots. Through a combined 240 minutes this season, Maverick goalies hold a 2.00 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.  

Senior defender Jayden Seifert leads the defense with a team-high four blocks this season and two shots.  

Taking on Minnesota:  

The Gophers come in with a 4-3-1 overall record. Minnesota was swept by No. 1 Wisconsin in Minneapolis by finals of 5-0 and 4-3 last time out. 

Leading the Gophers offense, senior Abbey Murphy has six goals and three assists for a total of nine points.  

 The Mavericks own a 5-108-3 record against Minnesota. The most recent victory against the Gophers was last season in Minneapolis with a 5-4 final score. 

In goal, Minnesota relies on Hannah Clark and Skylar Vetter, who have combined for a 2.35 goals-against average and an .884 save percentage for a 4-3-1 record.
