MANKATO, Minn. – Connecting on a long pass through the neutral zone, Tyler Young found the upper right corner of the twine for his first of the season in the first period and Merrimack College defeated Minnesota State 1-0 at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center Friday night in non-conference men's hockey.

Starting the play from inside the Warrior blue line after a change in possession was Zach Bookman, who assisted on the game's only marker.

Each team earned a power play in the second period and the Mavericks outshot the Warriors 12-4 in the middle stanza but the score stagnated the rest of the way.

Merrimack goaltender Max Lundgren stopped 28 shots and the Warriors blocked 11 more to improve to 1-1-0 on the year. Luke Ashton generated four shots from the point for the Mavericks.

Neither team scored on the power play and MSU finished 0-2 on the night.
Alex Tracy made 19 saves in goal for the Mavericks.

Minnesota State (1-2-0) hosts Merrimack College again on Saturday at 6:07 p.m. CT.
