Korsching’s Late Heroics Propels Mavericks Past Jennies

Mankato, Minn. --- #8 Minnesota State (2-0-1) leaps past #20 Central Missouri (1-2-0) courtesy of late-game heroics from sophomore Avery Korsching.

Korsching's first career game-winning goal stunned a Jennies team leading in shots 17-11 and 34 seconds away from the final buzzer.

Sophomore Kiera Laney found herself with the ball with 40 seconds to go in the match, sailing a perfect pass to the foot of Korsching who knocked home her third goal of the season. Laney collected her first colligate point with a flawless assist.

Senior Mackenzie Rath saw 17 shots fighting off three for her 25th career shutout resulting in her 32nd career win.

Reigning NSIC Defender of the Week senior Libby Spangler led the Mavericks' defense with her 31st career full-time game blocking numerous UCM chances from getting to Rath.

Head coach Brian Bahl after the game: "Really proud of our ladies for the fight, grit and composure they showed throughout the game today. We talked before the game about the importance of competing and staying composed and together no matter what happened and if we did that we'd find a way…and they certainly executed that plan!

This team has taken on a reputation already of being one of the toughest, grittiest most together groups we've had and they're finding ways to get grow each day! They've been a blast to work with. Our leadership has been strong and that's made a huge difference and it has been a very selfless, team focused group so far.
We know we have another really tough one ahead on Sunday…so we just need to keep our focus on going 1-0 and on trying to get a little bit better every chance we have to take the field."

The Mavericks are back in action on Sunday hosting Grand Valley State at 2:00 p.m. on The Pitch.
