Mankato, Minn. --- No. 5 Minnesota State (5-1-2) was held to a 1-1 tie against Minot State (4-3-1) this afternoon at Herb Parker Stadium.
After seven straight games of no score at the half, the Mavericks took advantage of a fortunate bounce in the 65th minute to give Minnesota State the lead.
Senior
Allie Williams collected a pass while spinning to avoid a Minot defender who then got off a shot from the top of the box. Williams shot was deflected by a second Minot defender resulting in Williams third goal on the season.
Minot state responded in the 73rd minute after converting a penalty kick breaking senior
Mackenzie Rath's shutout streak at 342 consecutive minutes.
Head coach
Brian Bahl after the game: "It's really tough to leave here with a tie.
Another unfortunate bounce, similar to the Grand Valley game that gave them a PK after we controlled the game like we did and had a lead is hard to swallow.
I'm proud of our team though for blocking out the weather conditions and playing a solid game. Obviously, we need to find a way to score more goals so that the unfortunate bounces don't hold us back."
The Mavericks are back in action on Friday as they host St. Cloud State at 3:00 p.m.Â
