Box Score Seaside, Calif. – Minnesota State volleyball fell to the Northwest Nazarene in five sets at the Otter Volleyball Invitational Thursday night.
This was the first match of the season for both the Mavericks and the Nighthawks (1-0, 0-0).
The Nighthawks took the first set, winning 29-27. Minnesota State came back and won the next two sets, 25-17 and 25-20. Northwest Nazarene closed out the match winning the fourth and fifth set.
Junior
Elizabeth Dille was the match leader in kills with 18.
Sophie Tietz was second in kills for the Mavericks with 16 and led the match with two blocks.
Ellie Kline and
Brooke Bolwerk had 16 and 15 digs, respectively. Bolwerk also led Minnesota State in assists with 25.
"We lost a hard-fought first match" said head coach
Corey Phelps. "We need to put teams away when we have the chance. It wasn't the start we were looking for, but one we will definitely learn from."
The Mavericks (0-1, 0-0) play two matches tomorrow, against Westmont College at 4:00 p.m. and against the host, CSU Monterey Bay at 8:00 p.m.
