Minnesota State Routes Gannon in RussMatt Invitational Opener

Davenport, Fla. --- Minnesota State (5-2, 0-0 NSIC) blows past Gannon University, 15-0, Thursday evening in its first game at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

Minnesota State saw 11 different Mavericks score runs in today's matchup with the Golden Knights.

The Mavericks benefited from Golden Knight's errors in the field as they found themselves up 1-0 in the second inning after Sophomore Zach Stroh came home on a fielder's error.

Stroh would later double in the Mavericks half of the fourth driving home Junior Ryan Friedges to increase Minnesota States' lead by two.

Discipline at the plate was key for the Mavericks as they accumulated 10 free passes at the plate paving the way for a six-run sixth inning.

Sophomore Aidan Byrne spear-headed the Mavericks' offensive in the sixth and seventh innings after racking up two doubles and four RBIs on the day.

Junior pitcher Nathan Culley (3-0) notched his third win on the season after going six innings allowing one hit and no earned runs. Culley compiled a season-high eight strikeouts on the day while seeing his ERA shrink to 0.95 on the season.

Dylan Crowley (0-1) got tagged with his first loss on the season, going four innings after allowing two runs on six hits.

The Mavericks are back in action tomorrow evening to take on the Tiffin University Dragons. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. EST.
