WINONA, Minn. --- Minnesota State picked up its second NSIC win of the season Friday evening as it swept Winona State 7-0.
With the win, MSU improves to 5-1, including a 2-1 NSIC record. With the loss, WSU drops to 6-4, including a 3-1 conference record. This is the first time the Mavericks have defeated the Warriors in a dual since the 2015-16 season.
The Mavericks secured the first point of the dual as they won all three of the doubles matches.
Senior
Lois Page and sophomore
Avery Stilwell defeated Beth Murman and Sara Anderson 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match, while sophomore
Freia Lawrence and senior
Chiara Carnelutti bested Rachel Kelly and Ally Burger 7-5 in the No. 2 doubles match. Sophomore
Elizabeth Felderman and freshman
McKenna DeMarce defeated Miranda Daulong and Clara Thoemke 6-3 in the No. 3 doubles match also.
MSU then swept the six singles matches to secure the 7-0 win.
Page earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Murman in the No. 1 singles match, while Lawrence defeated Kelly 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles match. Carnelutti bested Anderson 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles match, while Stilwell posted a 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) win over Daulong in the No. 4 singles match. Freshman
Daria Podmogilaia recorded a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win over Thoemke in the No. 5 singles match, while DeMarce defeated Burger 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) in the sixth singles match.
Minnesota State wraps up its weekend this Sunday as it takes on Upper Iowa in Winona, Minn. The dual is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
