MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State softball team fell to Lewis University 6-2, before defeating Northwest Missouri State 11-0 in five innings to open its season.
The Mavericks now own a 1-1 record.
Game 1 Recap
Minnesota State began the day with a 6-2 loss to the Lewis University Flyers. Junior
Kacy Nickerson (0-1) was saddled with the loss as she gave up four runs, three earned, while striking out six in three innings. Allie Wondrasek (1-0) earned the win as she gave up two runs, one earned, in the complete game effort. Sophomore Sophia
Del Vecchio threw four innings in relief of Nickerson, as she gave up three hits and two runs.
The Flyers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as an RBI-single from Sara Serena drove in Delaney Garden to put LU up 1-0. LU would add three more runs in the top of the third as an RBI-single from Jaylin Powell and a two-run home run from Serena would put the Flyers up 4-0.
The Mavericks got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. An error and a walk, put two Maverick runners on base to open the inning. With one out and runners on second and third, junior
Sydney Nelson drove in sophomore
Cheyenne Behrends with a sac fly to center field to bring the score to 4-1.
Lewis added two more runs in the top of the seventh as Powell hit a two-run home run to center field to put the Flyers up 6-1. Behrends drove in senior
Sydney Nielsen with an RBI-triple in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all the Mavericks would get as Lewis claimed the 6-2 win.

Ellie Tallman recorded two hits for the Mavericks.
Game 2 Recap
Junior
McKayla Armbruster (1-0) picked up the win as she allowed three hits while striking out eight in the complete game effort. Jadyn Streigle (0-1) took the loss as she allowed nine runs, four earned, in two innings of work.
The Mavericks put together six-run second inning to go up 6-0 early. Sophomore
Ella Schulz opened the scoring with an RBI-single, before Nelson stole home. Nielsen, Behrends and Tallman each recorded RBI-singles in the inning as well.
MSU added five more runs in the bottom of the third to extend its lead to 11-0. Junior
Madi Newman and Nielsen both drove in runs with sacrifice flies, before Tallman drove in three with an RBI-triple.
Tallman finished the game with four RBI, while Behrends, Schulz and junior
Courtney Baxter each scored two runs.
Minnesota State wraps up its dome tournament on Saturday as it takes on Missouri Western at 6:30 p.m., and Northwest Missouri State at 8:30 p.m.
