SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- Minnesota State began its NSIC schedule with a dominant performance Friday evening as the Mavericks swept Sioux Falls 7-0.
With the win, MSU improves to 2-0 on the season, including a 1-0 NSIC record. With the loss, USF drops to 1-2, including a 0-2 conference record.
The Mavericks began the day winning all three of the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.
Lois Page and
Avery Stilwell defeated Ella Hancock and Sydney Osborn 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles match, while
Chiara Carnelutti and
Freia Lawrence defeated Alissa Thorfinnson and Katelyn Nesheim 6-1 in the No. 2 doubles match. The duo of
McKenna DeMarce and
Elizabeth Felderman defeated Emily Thinnsen and Danielle Thorffinson 6-2 in the No. 3 doubles match as well.
MSU swept the singles matches to secure then 7-0 sweep.
Page defeated Osborn 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match, while Carnelutti bested Hancock 6-2, 5-7, 10-5 in the No. 2 singles match. Stilwell defeated Thinnsen 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles match, while
Daria Podmogilaia won 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 in the No. 4 singles match. DeMarce defeated Brianna Holm6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles match, while
Hana Minisy earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Emma Rangel in the No. 6 singles match.
Minnesota State finishes its weekend on Saturday as it takes on the Augustana Vikings. The dual is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m., in Sioux Falls, S.D.
