Mavericks Drop Road Contest at Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- Minnesota State got tripped up Saturday afternoon on the road as it fell to Augustana 87-59.

With the loss, the Mavericks drop to 16-10, including a 10-10 NSIC record. With the win, the Vikings improve to 14-12, including a 10-10 conference record.

The score remained close early on in the first half as the Mavericks led the Vikings 11-10 with 14:26 to go in the half. AU then put together an 11-5 run over the next five minutes to build a 21-16 lead.

The Vikings would outscore the Mavericks 23-6 over the final 9:28 of the first half to take a 44-22 into halftime.

Junior Malik Willingham and sophomore Kyreese Willingham paced the Mavericks in the first half with six points and three rebounds each. As a team, MSU shot 28.6% from the field in the first half.

Ryan Miller led all scorers in the first half with 15 points, while Akoi Akoi tallied 12 points. As a team, AU shot 54.8% from the field.

The second half would see the Vikings hold at least a 20 point lead throughout as the Mavericks lost 87-59.

Senior Trevor Moore paced the Mavericks with 13 points and five rebounds, while Kyreese Willingham tallied 12 points and six rebounds.

As a team, MSU shot 33.3% from the field. The Mavericks also hauled in 34 rebounds and cashed in on 11-of-12 (.917) shots from the free throw line.

Miller led all scorers with 19 points, while Akoi notched 16 points and five rebounds.

As a team, Augustana shot 52.5% from the field. The Vikings also connected on 16-of-17 (.941) shots from the line and passed out 14 assists.

Minnesota State returns to Taylor Center on Thursday for its regular season home finale against Winona State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
