Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Minnesota State senior forward Sydney Langseth tallied a pair of goals and an assist as the Mavericks skated past Robert Morris University, 5-1, in the opening game of the Smashville Classic.
Junior Claire Vekich tied the game at one as she scored during a scrum in front of the net midway thru the first period. Junior MacKenzie Bourgerie and senior Charlotte Akervik each tallied an assist on the goal.
The Mavericks – specifically Langseth – added a pair of goals in the second. Langseth's first tally came on the power play as she took a pass from freshman JuliAnna Gazdik and sophomore Taylor Otremba. She would add and even strength goal later in the period with Otremba and fellow sophomore Whitney Tuttle assisting.
Minnesota State put the game out of reach in the third as Tuttle took a pass from Langseth and scored to make it 4-1 before senior Jamie Nelson added an empty net goal to round out the scoring. Junior Alexis Paddington and sophomore Lilie Ramirez assisted on the play.
Senior Lauren Barbro picked up the win in the net for the Mavericks.
"We had a lot of people answer the bell," said acting head coach Shari Dickerman. "The power play pumped in a goal and our penalty kill was great. Barbro played great in goal, she was huge for us in the net. Top to bottom we had a great effort from everyone."
Minnesota State wraps up the Smashville Classic tomorrow as they play Boston University at noon.
