Mankato, Minn. --- Tenth-ranked Minnesota State (9-1-5, 7-1-4) was downed by MSU Moorhead (3-8-4, 2-5-4) by a final of 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Nemzek Soccer Field.
The win was the first for MSU Moorhead over the Mavericks since Oct. 14, 1997.
Despite outshooting the Dragons 26-10, MSU was unable to find consistent scoring threats as they landed only nine shots on goal.
Freshman forward
Maddix Archer opened the scoring on a successful penalty shot in the 29th minute.
Minnesota State Moorhead's Tabea Czech led the offensive push for the Dragons in the second half scoring the tying goal off a corner kick and assisting the game-winning goal for the Dragons in the 54th minute.
"We've struggled all season to take advantage and capitalize on the chances we create. It's been the theme this season," stated head coach
Brian Bahl. "We'll keep working to get better. I believe in our team, and I know we've got a higher ceiling than what we've reached so far."
The Mavericks look to climb back into the win column on Friday as they get set to host Minnesota Crookston at 3 p.m. on The Pitch.
