Mankato, Minn. --- Five former Mavericks are set to PWHL Training camps next month.
The new Professional Women's Hockey League was officially revealed Tuesday with six inaugural franchises and a 24-game regular season that begins in January 2024.
The PWHL will feature three teams in the U.S. and three teams in Canada. The American franchises are located in Boston, Minneapolis-St. Paul and the New York City area. The Canadian franchises are located in Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa, Ontario.
The PWHL's Minnesota franchise has invited Free Agent forwards
Brittyn Fleming,
Brooke Bryant, and
Claire Butorac to its 2023 training camp.
Toronto has invited former Maverick defender
Jessica Kondas while the New York franchise has invited former Minnesota State goaltender
Abigail Levy.
All four positions players rank in the top five for most games played in the purple and gold. Fleming and Bryant lead the pack with 161 games played over their tenure as Mavericks. Fleming is the most decorated Maverick out of the five, ranking first in MSU all-time assist (69) and MSU all-time points (114) while slotting in a third in all-time goals (44).
Levy sported two seasons in the purple and gold, seeing 56 games through her career. She concluded her time with the Mavericks with a 2.58 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.
