Minnesota State Takes Down LWU for Second Consecutive Sweep, 5-2

St. Charles, Mo. .--- Minnesota State earned its second consecutive sweep as it downed Lindenwood, 5-2 Saturday afternoon.  The Mavericks, who have won their last four, improved to 11-11-0 with the win.

The two teams skated to a scoreless first period despite the Mavericks owning an 11-3 edge in shots on goal in the first period.

Sophomore Jessica Boland broke the scoreless tie 8:12 mark of the second period with her first goal on the season.  The Mavericks added a second goal moments later as sophomore Alexis Paddington snuck her eighth goal of the season, giving Minnesota State a 2-0 lead after two periods.

Lindenwood cut the score in half just under seven minutes into the third as Rachel Goff scored.

The two teams then traded goals as senior Brooke Bryant scored from the right faceoff dot at the 12:14 mark of the third.

Lindenwood was able to retake the momentum early in the third period after an impressive penalty kill. The first LWU shot after its penalty kill found its way in the back of the net cutting the MSU lead to one.

The Lions fought to stay in the game after a Brooke Bryant snipe from the right faceoff dot at the 12:14 mark of the third period. Lindenwood's Morgan Neitzke brought the game within one as she scored at 17:05, cutting the Maverick lead to 3-2.

Bryant added an insurance goal for the Mavericks as she scored on an empty net at 17:35 before Freshman Whitney Tuttle slammed the door with a goal at 17:58.

Senior goaltender Alexa Berg stopped 24 of 26 shots faced as she collects her team-leading sixth win on the season.

Bryant finished with a team-high three points in the win with two goals and an assist.  Senior Kelsey King added a pair of assists to help pace the Mavericks offensively.

The Mavericks are back in action Friday as they host St. Cloud at the Mayo Clinic Events Center. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m.
