Mankato, Minn. --- Fifth-ranked Minnesota State stayed undefeated at home as it claimed an 86-61 victory over St. Cloud State Friday evening in NSIC action.
With the win, MSU improves to 12-1 (8-1 NSIC), while St. Cloud State drops to 9-4 (6-3 NSIC) on the season.
Minnesota State never trailed in the win. Five different Mavericks scored in the first quarter as they opened a 19-11 lead after the first ten minutes. Juniors Emily Herzberg, Joey Batt, and Taylor Theusch scored six points each to spark the Mavericks.
The Mavericks would extend their lead to 43-28 at half as recorded 17 points off 19 Husky first-half turnovers.
Minnesota State outscored SCSU, 43-33 in the second half to cruise to a 25-point win.
As a unit, Minnesota State shot at 36.8% from the field and 37.9% outside the three-point line. The Mavericks turned 34 Husky turnovers into 30 points. Nine different Mavericks tallied a steal, led by Batt who recorded eight.
Batt and freshman Natalie Bremer paced Minnesota State with 18 points apiece, while sophomore Destinee Bursch added 14. In all, 11 of the 14 Mavericks who played registered a point.
The Mavericks continue action tomorrow as they host 23rd-ranked Minnesota Duluth at 3:30 p.m.
